Visit from Grandpa Doug and Grandma LeAnn

(I realize I'm really behind in posting this, but better late than never, right?)

Doug and LeAnn came for a visit the first weekend in October. With them (just like last time), they brought some cool, rainy weather so we had to find something to do that was indoors. We visited the Dallas World Aquarium, which we just love, but don't think we'd taken Caiden yet. He loved seeing all the animals- especially the river otters!

We're so glad they came to visit and thank them for all the goodies they brought us!

Are you a quilter?

I just love quilts! But I am NOT a quilter- I don't even own a sewing machine!  Luckily, other people make quilts and give them as wonderful gifts. I wanted to share a few that we've received in case you want some inspiration.
This is the one that started it off.  My mom made this for me several years ago and it is my super favorite. The picture doesn't even do it justice. I love the colors and the postcard backing fabric and the quilting stitch!!

These are Caiden's quilts, made by grandma LeAnn, my aunt April, and Nana (my mom). He loves them all and we have different uses for each one!

These are Caleb's quilts, made by grandma LeAnn and Nana. I've already decided to have a Hungry Caterpillar themed first birthday party for Caleb (yes, I know I'm crazy for thinking about it already), but the quilt will make a great backdrop at the party!!

And I realize this is not a quilt, but my mom also made a car seat cover using the fabric from Caleb's quilt. It's really handy because it attaches to the handle so it doesn't fall off and it keeps germy strangers from getting to close :)  I've gotten lots of complements on it!

Thanks so much to the ladies who made these wonderful quilts.

P.S. if either of you are in need of a project, I would very much like a quilt for the guest bedroom ;)

Caleb 4 months

-Weight: 12lb 12 oz. (his weight gain slowed down, so we will be watching this carefully!)
-Length:24.5"
-Diapers: size 1, but as soon as we finish them all we'll probably switch to size 2

-Clothes: Mostly 3-6 month clothes although they are pretty big on him- especially the pants

- Sleeping: During the day, he can have about 2 hours of awake time before he naps, so (roughly) he's napping at 9, 11:30, 3, and 6. sometimes they are catnaps but I try to get him 45 minutes to an hour. At night, we just started "sleep training" so it's kinda hard to say. By "sleep training" i just mean we are trying to get him to fall asleep on his own and sleep longer. Yes, this entails some crying, but we aren't letting him cry for hours. We usually wait about 15 minutes, then go in and calm him down and try again. He's still  sleeping in a RockNPlay Sleeper but I'm trying to get him in his crib more. The last few nights he's slept from about 9 or 9:30 till about 2am then wake to eat. He'll go back to sleep again until about 6:45am. Hopefully this pattern will continue!

-Eating: He's nursing every 3 hours. The pediatrician said that it would be ok if we started him on some rice cereal, but I think I'm going to wait a bit.

-Brotherhood: Caleb loves his brother! He's gotten to the point of getting distracted if he hears Caiden while he's eating. He love to watch him play and Caiden loves to give toys to Caleb.

-Milestones:
  • Able to sit straight if propped up
  • Raise head 90 degrees when placed on stomach
  • Can roll from back to side
  • Tries to reach objects with hands
  • Holds and lets go of an object
  • Able to grasp toys with both hands
  • Increase eye contact with parents and others
  • Babbles and coos
  • Demands attention by fussing
  • Recognizes parent voice or touch

-Other notes:
  •  Caleb has really turned into a sweet boy. We had some rough times at the beginning, but he's really settled down. He loves attention, loves to talk and play. He's better now being in the carseat (most times) and has begun to like the swing.
  • He still sucks and chews on his hands and fingers.
  • He likes his puppy lovey, his musical giraffe and his new taggie.

Here's Caleb as he's growing:

Here's a look at what he's been up to this month:
