How does you garden grow?

Even though we got a late start planting this year, the garden is growing and we are really looking forward to enjoying the fruits of our labor soon. It's been so hot that we've had to water twice a day to keep everything from looking all wilted up.
Here's our hanging tomato . The top is cherry tomatos and the bottom is regular. It's crazy that the upside-down part curled so that it wouldn't be upside-down anymore.

A few tomatos growing on the top plant!  Can't wait to eat them!!

We've got some yellow squash getting started!

And our staple supply of jalapeño peppers!

This our first time to grow yellow bell peppers. Hope it does well!
The strawberry plant is not doing too well. You can see the fruit, but they don't grow much bigger.

And my flowers are growing growing growing...

The funny thing is that there was a beautiful Gerber Daisy in the planter on the left and it hasn't bloomed again. In fact, every time I've gotten a Gerber Daisy plant it's had blooms on it and I've never had them bloom again- what's the deal with that?

Here's a comparison pic of when we planted to a couple of weeks ago.

Happy Father's Day

Yesterday was Father's Day and Eric, Caiden and I had a wonderful day together. Caiden woke Daddy up bright and early at 6:30 to give him his gift.  His shopping didn't result in much to brag about, but they were some things that Eric was wanting/needing. We got ready and headed off to church where we heard a great sermon on the importance of fathers.

After church we ate lunch a Pappa's Burgers. Caiden had his first quesadilla and loved it.  I think I'll be making those more around here. Then we went to the Forth Worth Museum of Science.  It was Duck Tape & Dads Day so any dad wearing something made of duck tape got in for FREE!! I made Eric a watch (you can see it in the pic below), but there were some good creations there (several ties, some belts, and even a pair of boots!). We had been to the museum once before but they've completely renovated since then.  There is a great children's area that Caiden just loved!

After playing in the museum we went to the Imax theater to see Tornado Alley. We watch the show Storm Chasers so Eric has been wanting to see the film that Sean Casey made. Caiden slept through the whole thing!

Happenings

I knew it had been awhile since my last blog but I didn't realize it had been 3 weeks!  Man, now I have to catch up- what have we been up to??
Let's see... On May 20, I took Caiden to see his first play. They have great children's theater at the Casa Mañana Theater in Fort Worth and we got some cheap tickets through GCS Mom's League. We saw Wizard of Oz and it was a great performance, although I'm not sure Caiden truly appreciated it :)

The following week we had bad storms here. On May 24 (the Tuesday after the Joplin tornado), we had to get Caiden out of bed and go into our "Fraidy Hole"  aka the closet under the stairs. Even though our sirens were going off for about 45 minutes, we were very lucky!

That Thursday, Caiden started swim class.  It's a Mommy and Me class at Aquakids and he LOVES it!  His buddies Landon and Camden are in the same class too. I like it too because the water is about 90 degrees and of course my mommy friends Erin and Amanda are there as well :) We've had 2 classes so far and he's learning to kick, jump off the side, and blow bubbles. It's a 13 week class so he has plenty of time to learn.  I think by the end of it, he should be able to hold his breath for 3-5 seconds. I don't have any pictures of it yet because it would be kinda hard to take pictures while I'm in the pool!

That weekend Caiden got to try out his forward facing car seat in Eric's car- We have a rear-facing one in my car. And he had his first kid's meal at Dickey's BBQ. It's great because kids eat free all day every day.  He had some turkey and bread, green beans and milk- and of course a taste of ice cream afterwards.

Eric's mom came down Memorial Day weekend so Eric and I got to go out on a date. We were celebrating our 8th anniversary so we went to our favorite place- Boi Ni Braza! It's a Brazilian steakhouse that is so good you can practically eat a whole cow! After dinner, with the tiny bit of room left in our bellies, we went to a wine bar and tasted a few wines and listened to some live music.  It was so nice to have a date with my wonderful husband!

On Memorial day, we took Caiden for his first ride in his bike trailer.  I think he enjoyed it. He didn't really get excited, but at least he didn't cry or seem scared.

Other than that, it has been stinkin' hot! And it continues this week.  It's in the upper 90s so I don't want to take Caiden out too much in the afternoons. My sister Jenny and family got Caiden a pool for his birthday and we got him a water table with a gift card from the McCrary's so we've been keeping cool with those.

Oh, and here's a quick update on Caiden's 13 month milestones:
  • getting better walking, can carry an object in both hands or a large object with both hands together
  • is really interested in books
  • has started recognizing people in pictures and on the computer screen
  • still only has 4 teeth
  • eats pretty much anything- we made him salmon burgers this weekend which he loved. I've also made him broccoli cheese nuggets, turkey loaf, pancakes and zucchini muffins. I'm freezing some juice into popsicles to see how he like that.
  • He's gotten a little bit of the separation anxiety.  He hasn't wanted to go to the nursery or be away from me when I go to take a shower.
