5 months, 1st Family Vacation, and Picture comparisons

I figured I better get caught up on my blogging- since I am a little behind.

First things first.  Caiden is 5months old today! My guesstimate is that he is about 15 pounds and 27" long. He has accomplished several big milestones in the last couple of weeks.  First, he started rolling over on his own.  He can go from his back to his belly- the probably is... he doesn't exactly LOVE being on his belly, so then he gets upset.  He has rolled from his belly to his back a couple of times, but I don't think he realizes he can do it.  So now he is a rolling machine.  The minute you put him down, he rolls over.  And he has been rolling over in his sleep and waking himself up!

The second big milestone is he tried his first solid food.  We started giving him a little bit of rice cereal once a day.  I was planning on waiting until he was 6 months old, but he has been so interested in watching us eat for several weeks- and that is one of the signs that they are ready to try it.

Here are some other milestones:

•Pays attention to small objects
•Experiments with the concept of cause and effect
•Can see across the room
•Begining to use hands in a raking fashion to bring toys near
•Begining teething process
•Is able to reach accurately for an object.
•Can hold his head steady when sitting upright.
•Can raise his chest with arm support while lying on his stomach.
•Squeals with delight.
•He spontaneously smiles.
•He turns towards the source of a sound or voice.
•Gets attention by babbling.
•He makes different sounds for different needs.
 
The second topic for today is our first family vacation.  A couple of weekends ago we flew up to Boston and drove down to Cape Cod.  It was definitely one of our more interesting trips.  As avid travelers, Eric and I have learned that we need to adjust our idea of travelling with Caiden.  He is a wonderful traveler, mind you, but Eric and I are used to being on the go the whole time, seeing as many sights as possible.  As you might imagine, this isn't really a good plan when travelling with an infant.  So next time, we are going to slow things down and just relax and enjoy!  Here are a couple of pics from the trip.  There will be more uploaded to our Shutterfly site.

Finally, people always ask me who I think Caiden looks like.  Well, I can't really say that he definitely looks like me or Eric.  What do you think?

Fun with Family part 2

On Sunday we celebrated my other grandma's birthday at my moms house, so Caiden got to meet more relatives!

Eric had to go back to home on Sunday because he had to go to work on Monday, but I stayed a couple extra days to enjoy some time with my mom!  We had lots of fun getting ice cream and going to Addison's fundraiser for her soccer team.  My mom even got Caiden a bouncy chair for her house so he wouldn't have to live without it. Let me tell you.. he loves the bouncy chair and he was very grateful!

Eric flew back up on Wednesday to help me fly home with Caiden. (I was too scared to try it by myself for the 2nd flight of his life!)  Our departure was delayed about an hour, but we took off and Caiden went fast to sleep.  We were in flight for about 2 hours (the flight is normally less than that) when the captain came on and said we were going to circle over TX for awhile because there were storms over DFW.  Luckily Caiden kept sleeping.  Awhile later the captain came back on and said that we were going to Oklahoma City to refuel.  Once on the ground in OK, I was walking up and down the aisle with Caiden (he had woken up and was a little bored).  Other passengers were so surprised and made several comments about how good he was.  We were on the ground for about an hour, but then were able to take off and made it home.  We were so grateful for Caiden's easy-going nature during that flight.

Fun with Family part 1

What a bad blogger I have been. It has been almost a whole month!  But we have been busy!  We took our first trip to see family the last weekend in August.  Caiden did so well on his first plane ride. 

On Saturday my sister hosted everyone from my Dad's side of the family: aunts, uncles, cousins, grandma and more got to meet our little guy for the first time.
