Random thoughts (walking & tapas)

So we've spent the last week with Caiden enjoying his new-found freedom. He loves walking and is getting better each day. He still has his arms in the air and struggles a little with shoes on, but he is doing really well. Here's a couple of pics:

On Saturday night, Eric and I had a nice date night at home. Central Market was having a special Spain event, so we went and picked up some of our favorite tapas to have for dinner! It was like being in Spain all over again (gastronomically speaking of course).

Great Strides for both me & Caiden

Well it's official... Caiden is walking. You probably saw the post on Facebook because I couldn't wait to share the news! It started about a week ago- with Caiden taking 4-5 steps between me and Eric, then he took a few steps at Gymboree class. He really wouldn't do it on his own at first- we would have to peel our hand out of his but then Friday night he was so excited to walk.  Here is a little video- I just love the noises he's making.

On Saturday, Caiden and I went to KC for a little birthday party with my Dad's side of the family and some friend's from Lawrence.  I'll post more about that when I get some pics, but Caiden was really walking there (that's the video I posted on FB).

The other thing I'm referring to in the title of this blog is the Great Strides Walk for Cystic Fibrosis that we are walking in this Saturday. I'm participating with the Spanish Club at CHS. I'm really excited about doing it this year with Caiden because last year I was about to go to the walk and I went into labor! Anyway, my goal is to raise $150 and I've already beaten my goal by $5!!  Yay! A great big thanks to those who have supported me! But wait- the CF Foundation can use more! Please feel free to use the link at the top right side of this blog to make a donation! As a side note- you can be sure that I am not a runner like my sister and I will definitely be walking :)

Goings Ons

I'm doing this quick post while Caiden is napping. Well, I'm not sure if he's asleep yet, but at least he's laying in his crib not screaming!  It's been getting better at nap time around here. He's taking 2 naps a day in his crib. I can usually even transfer him from his car seat if he falls asleep in the car.  Most time it starts with a little bit of time screaming before he goes to sleep, but it's getting better! And I can't really complain because he sleeps 12 hours at night!

So I just thought I'd share a couple of non-Caiden things. Eric and I finally got the garden going in the back year. Mom and Geno helped while they were in town for Caiden's b-day party by getting me some potted plants for my birthday! (Caiden is not sleeping... playing with his glow seahorse)



(Caiden started screaming while the pictures were loading) And then Eric expanded our planting bed so that we could plant vegetables in the ground.  We haven't had much luck growing them in pots. We planted a tomato, jalapeno pepper, sweet yellow pepper and straightneck summer squash. I also planted my herb tower several weeks ago.

In addition to the gardening, I've been able to go to two Mom's Night Out events that have been so much fun. The first one was at a place called Painting With A Twist and a teacher will teach you how to paint that night's piece of art. I've never really painted before and I'm not a very good artist so I was pleasantly surprised by the result.  The painting we did doesn't really match the decor of my house so I'd like to go back and do another one that I would actually display. (If anyone would like a lovely painting for your house, let me know)



The other one was the craft club for the GCS Moms League and we made washer necklaces.  It was pretty difficult to stamp the letters into the washers so I have an even greater respect for the people that are selling them on Etsy!

And I finish just as Caiden falls asleep!  Ahhh, sweet silence!
